Walter Lopez was born in New York City in 1961. His inspiration comes from the sights and sounds of various environments he was exposed to growing up. These inspirational settings include New York, Florida, Texas, Puerto Rico and Europe.
He is a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico with a degree in Radiology Sciences. This unique background is reflected in his work. A self taught artist, Lopez created his first works at the age fourteen. At the age of thirty-five, while living in Chicago, he began painting some of his first commercial work.
The expanse of Lopez' imagination is reflected in his art. His work embodies and embraces a combination of geometrical forms and is presented to us with vibrant density of colors. A fusion of nature and mysticism is present throughout the artist's work creating an invitation to walk into the world of abstractism. Lopez maximizes the use of light and reflection to portray the joining of surrealism and the abstract world.
The creative presentation of this union tells a story which creates a warm feeling. This story signifies the elements that accent the artist's life's experiences and his view of the world. The works of Walter Lopez offer a unique and different level of vital energy which allow the viewer to be mentally and spiritual transported in space and time. This presents an open invitation to share and discuss ideas, as well as provide an arena to relate to the artist.
